<p>As thousands put on their superhero gear and made the annual trek to San Diego Comic-Con International, one group of high powered Filipinos have assembled to play heroes in pushing global Philippine art.</p><p>Legendary comic book artist Whilce Portacio and music superstar apl.de.ap led a panel of creatives and co-founders for the launch of the Halo Halo app.</p><p>&quot;Comic-Con is big, it’s international, it’s everywhere. I want to take that power and I want to blast Pinoy pride, Pinoy IP in the world. This is the first portal this is the most important portal we’re going to do it,&quot; said Portacio.</p><div><ivs-player data-ivs-key="e8c22c015ca9eafa76f1e3edfa03c603" data-ivs-spid="3001339" data-ivs-vid="3066635"></ivs-player></div><script src="https://player.ivideosmart.com/ivsplayer/v4/dist/js/loader.js"></script><p>The app is available on any smart devices, and allows fans to read independently produced Filipino publishers like Kwento Comics, Lumpia, and Bayani.</p><p>It can also browse through news, trends, and celebrate other Filipino arts.</p><p>&quot;Everybody needs a boost, whether you’re in the Philippines or over here, everyone needs a boost. One of the things I’ve learned is the power of the audience if the fans are behind you, you can fight the big companies, you get what you want. Because the consumer is king and that’s what we’re doing in Halo Halo, we’re allowing the creative to get the power,&quot; Portacio said.</p><div><ivs-player data-ivs-key="e8c22c015ca9eafa76f1e3edfa03c603" data-ivs-spid="3001339" data-ivs-vid="3066636"></ivs-player></div><script src="https://player.ivideosmart.com/ivsplayer/v4/dist/js/loader.js"></script><p>Halo Halo even has a karaoke function, with Apl.de.Ap’s collaboration with SB19 as one of the first sing-along tracks. Apl served as Halo Halo’s Philippines creative director.</p><p>&quot;We have so many creative cultures back in the Philippines. I swear if you just, I did a creative tour around the Philippines I saw so many a amazing kids and what’s happening is that, again being outsourced.
