MANILA — Being a reporter since the 2000s, veteran journalist Niña Corpuz shared why journalists should stick to public service as the core of their profession.

Corpuz said that her job helped her understand the situation of the public.

"Ako nagsimula as a reporter since the year 2000, I'm very privileged that I still get to do what I love and I feel so blessed," she said.

"Bilang isang journalist, marami akong natutunan, marami akong exposure sa iba't ibang klase ng sitwasyon, ng tao, which I feel makes me connect with the people more or understand people more," she added.

With her new program on Teleradyo Serbisyo titled "Nagseserbisyo Niña Corpuz" with TV anchor Migs Bustos, Corpuz helping others is embedded in a journalist's DNA.

"I'm very glad for that wealth of experience behind me na maaari kong dalhin sa programang ito at maihatid 'yung serbisyo para sa bayan," Corpuz said.

"Hindi po tayo tumitigil kahit naman nagkaroon ng break or nagkaroon ng pandemic, we still find ways kasi nasa DNA ko na eh, 'yun na talaga 'yung na-instill sa akin nung naging reporter po ako," she added.

She said journalists should not be in the profession for the fame but for the people.

"Ang ginagawa po namin ay hindi po talaga para sa sarili namin, ito po ay isang bokasyon. Hindi ka nandito para sumikat, hindi ka nandito para yumaman, nandito ka dahil mayroon ka talagang gustong gawin para ma-improve 'yung buhay ng kapwa maliit man o malaki," she said.

Corpuz is glad how her job has helped many people and she is energized to help more in the future.

"Kahit sa isang istorya, kahit sa simpleng istorya, kung mayroon akong isang kapwa Pilipino na na-inspire o nagbago 'yung buhay niya in a positive way dahil po roon sa aming istorya, ako po ay gigising uli bukas, excited for another day. Bakit ko 'to ginagawa? Ito 'yun," she said.
