MANILA — Actor Cedrick Juan on Tuesday calls out Filipinos' bias against local dog breed aspin and favouritism over foreign breeds.

Juan shared on Facebook a post from Pilibustero which quoted a line from historian Wensley Reyes, who said that the discrimination about being a Filipino has extended to animals.

"Mula noon, hanggang ngayon. Kailan matitigil ang diskrimimasyon? Talaga bang inferior (maliit) ang tingin natin sa sarili natin bilang Pilipino at Asong Pilipino?" he asked on his caption.

"Sa atin magsisimula ito. Dami nating problema na nag-uugat sa colonial mentality," Juan added.

The MMFF 2023 best actor's take came after a customer decried how Balay Dako, a restaurant that brands itself as "pet-friendly", refused to let her aspin to enter the place.

This earned wide condemnation from netizens and even celebrities, with Heart Evangelista criticizing Balay Dako's actions as well.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) also issued a statement, emphasizing that being "pet friendly" is not a mere marketing strategy for businesses, but an actual advocacy that should be inclusive to all dog breeds.
