David Ezra lands lead role as Mike Hanopol in 'Jeproks The Musical'

He was handpicked to play the lead.</p><p>After working at Hong Kong Disneyland for a time during the pandemic, Ezra is just glad to be back and be part of the local theater community again.</p><p>He said growing up vividly remembers one of Hanopol&#x27;s hit songs ”Laki sa Layaw.”</p><p>&quot;I am super familiar with that song because I’ve been hearing it ever since I was a kid,” Ezra said.</p><p>&quot;And I like &#x27;Balong Malalim&#x27; because like Sir Mike, I am also a rock guitarist so I like blues and rock-influenced songs.&quot;</p><p>Ezra sees the need to tell Hanopol&#x27;s story through this musical, which will include 15 of the rock veteran&#x27;s songs.</p><p>“It is always important to tell stories of our heroes and icons,” he said. “Sir Mike is one of the pillars of Philippine rock and roll. Telling his story to the younger generation is vital for them to understand where all the rock influences they listen to today came from.&quot;</p><p>Armed with a best supporting actor nomination for his performance in the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival entry, “Isang Himala,” he&#x27;s ready to take on another challenging character. </p><p>He also did the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” last year with Sandbox Collective.</p><p>After fulfilling his prior commitments, Ezra will start to assume the role of Mike Hanopol soon.</p><p>The musical is also presented by The Hammock Production Inc. and Twin Bill Theater.</p><div><br/></div><div><em>“Jeproks The Musical” will run from November 20-23 and from Nov. 27-30 at the GSIS Theater, J.W. Diokno Boulevard, CCP Complex. Roxas Boulevard.</em></div>
