'Itaewon Class' webtoon creator coming to Manila in July

Photos courtesy of the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines</div>South Korean webtoon artist Gwang Jin, creator of the webtoon that was adapted into the popular K-drama &quot;Itaewon Class,&quot; is coming to Manila this July for a series of events, including a workshop.Gwang Jin&#x27;s three-day visit, scheduled on July 4 to 6, is part of the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines&#x27; (KCC) &quot;Meet the Mentor&quot; series, which aims to connect Filipinos with leading figures from Korea&#x27;s creative industries.The visit will feature a workshop at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila on July 5, which includes a live drawing session where Gwang Jin will demonstrate how he crafts his stories, the KCC said in a press release.<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1750669078509Map Guide_Press Release.png" style="width:633px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div>On July 6, Gwang Jin is also set to hold a masterclass at the Philippine International Comics Festival (PICOF) at SM Megamall.Notably, this year marks the first time the KCC will participate as an exhibitor at PICOF, creating a dedicated space focused on Korean webtoons.&quot;Itaewon Class&quot; was adapted into a live-action television series that aired in 2020, starring Park Seo-jun as a man who opens a restaurant-bar in Seoul&#x27;s Itaewon district while seeking revenge against a powerful food conglomerate that wronged him in his youth.In recent decades, South Korea has emerged as a global cultural powerhouse, with products such as K-pop, television dramas and even webtoons gaining widespread international popularity. Notably, many webtoons have been successfully adapted into hit K-dramas.
