<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:950px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1750997449900Josh Dela Cruz 2.jpg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner"><em>Handout</em></span></span></span></div><p>(UPDATED) New York-based Filipino-American actor Josh Dela Cruz is set to star as Prince Charming/The Wolf in Theatre Group Asia&#x27;s production of Stephen Sondheim’s &quot;Into The Woods,&quot; which is set to open this August at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati.</p><p>While best known for hosting &quot;Blue&#x27;s Clues &amp; You,&quot; Dela Cruz has already played the lead in &quot;Aladdin&quot; on Broadway and also did roles in &quot;Here Lies Love,&quot; &quot;The Kind and I,&quot; and &quot;Merrily We Roll Along.&quot;</p><p>His role in &quot;Into The Woods&quot; marks Dela Cruz&#x27;s first foray in the Philippine musical stage.</p><p>“I’m so honored to join the cast of &#x27;Into The Woods.&#x27; It has always been a dream of mine to perform a musical in the Philippines. Getting the opportunity to perform with Filipino legends is icing on the cake. I can’t wait  to share this story with my kababayans!” Dela Cruz shared.  </p><p>&quot;I was often one of the only Filipinos in my class growing up in the suburbs of New Jersey. I can’t wait to be immersed in Filipino culture and be surrounded by the people. I look forward to learning more about myself through the audience, the cast, and the city,” he added.</p><div><br/></div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1750997464500Josh Dela Cruz 3.jpg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><div><br/></div><p>On playing Cinderella’s Prince Charming/The Wolf, he said: “I love the way &#x27;Into the Woods&#x27; explores the ‘loss of innocence’ and presents the consequences of how we deal with that change. We can either dwell on it or choose to be present, move forward, and live our lives to the fullest. It’s a simple idea, but something I try to remind myself of every day.” </p><p>Joaquin Pedro Valdes, who was originally tapped to play Cinderella’s Prince Charming/The Wolf, will no longer join the Philippine production. In a statement posted late Friday by manager Noel Ferrer on social media, Valdes said: &quot;I’m sad to say I’m no longer able to perform in Manila in ‘Into the Woods.’ I can’t wait to get to Manila soon for another opportunity and wish everyone involved in this production the very best — it will be amazing.&quot;</p><p>Behind the production of &quot;Into The Woods&quot; is Tony Award-winning visionary Clint Ramos, who serves as overall artistic and creative director alongside co-producers John and Joanna Echauz, and TGA executive director Chris Mohnani.
