‘Dear Evan Hansen’ extends Manila run through Oct. 5

MANILA — The Manila production of the Tony Award-winning musical "Dear Evan Hansen" has been extended until October 5 due to overwhelming demand, GMG Productions announced Wednesday.

Opening on September 4, the musical will now close a month later at The Theatre at Solaire. This will be the final extension of the show's limited Manila engagement, producers said.

“Bringing 'Dear Evan Hansen' to Manila has been a long-awaited moment, and the response has been everything we hoped for and more,” said Carlos Candal, CEO of GMG Productions. “We’re happy to announce this final extension so even more audiences can experience the impact of this production.”

"Dear Evan Hansen" follows the story of Evan, a socially anxious high school student whose life changes after a misunderstanding snowballs into a life-altering situation. The show explores themes of truth, connection, and self-acceptance.

The UK and international touring production is produced by ATG Productions, Gavin Kalin Productions, and Nottingham Playhouse. The show features a book by Steven Levenson and music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the award-winning songwriting duo behind "La La Land" and "The Greatest Showman."

Since its Broadway debut in 2016, "Dear Evan Hansen" has won multiple accolades, including the Tony Award for Best Musical, the Olivier Award for Best New Musical, and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

“'Dear Evan Hansen' has thrilled audiences on both sides of the Atlantic,” said director Adam Penford. “This exciting UK and international tour offers the opportunity to reexamine some of its contemporary themes and present this brand-new version to more people.”
