MANILA -- The Philippines emerged triumphant at the Battle of the Pastry and Bakery Chefs 2025, a prestigious international culinary competition in Penang, Malaysia.The Philippines was represented by a team from the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna in the event that is accredited by France-based organization WorldChefs Paris.They defeated other competitors from across Southeast Asia and brought home four gold medals and a bronze, including the top prize in the Wedding Cake Display category.<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1753620237955viber_image_2025-07-27_19-28-25-118.jpg" style="width:600px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" alt="Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna&#x27;s winning entry in the Battle of the Pastry and Bakery Chefs 2025. Photo courtesy of Dr. Abram Peralta</div>This marked the first time that the Penang Chefs Association awarded a perfect score in the Wedding Cake Display category in its 20-year history.&quot;This win is so meaningful not only to me but also to the rest of the Filipino pastry chefs — that the days of just looking up to and admiring the works of foreigners are no longer the goal. This time, they are celebrating us, our talent, and what Filipino pastry chefs have to offer,&quot; said team representative Dr. Abram Peralta.&quot;Now, we have marked another history by bringing home a rare Gold with Distinction recognition for the Philippines. We just paved the way. I am confident more Filipino pastry chefs can also win this distinction — we just need to pave the way.&quot;Before their triumph in this event, a team from LPU-Laguna had previously won a distinction medal for wedding cake artistry at Food Hotel Asia Singapore more than six years ago.The team also earned gold medals for their Chocolate Pralines and Petit Fours with a Chocolate Showpiece, their Amuse Bouche, and their Creative Cake Display. They also got bronze for their Fruit and Vegetable Carving.
