HandoutA coffee table book and photo exhibition honoring those missing since the 2017 Marawi conflict were launched Tuesday in Iligan City, giving voice to families still searching for answers.</div>About 300 people attended the event, including families of the missing, government officials, representatives from the Marawi Compensation Board and the Philippine National Police Forensic Group, and members of religious organizations.&quot;The Book of Memories (Ang Aklat ng Mga Alaala),&quot; a 77-page publication by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), features photographs by Filipino photojournalist Larry Monserate Piojo and personal stories from families of the missing. The launch coincides with the International Day of the Disappeared on August 30.A ribbon-cutting ceremony also opened a public photo exhibition at Robinsons Iligan, running through August 30. They also urged authorities to release information about positive identifications already made.</div>Local officials reported creating a technical working group on the identification and exhumation of remains from the Maqbara cemetery and reiterated their support for families, though no definitive answers have yet been given on the fate of the missing.The ICRC has documented more than 300 cases of people who disappeared during the Marawi conflict. Under the Geneva Conventions, to which the Philippines is a party, states are obliged to prevent disappearances, account for missing persons, and ensure dignified management and identification of the dead.
