MANILA — Be Our Guest Theater (BOGT) Philippines will represent the country at the 18th Mondial du Théâtre in Monaco this August, marking a significant milestone for Filipino theater as it returns to the global stage for only the second time in the festival’s history.<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1754546676202BOGT Philippines.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>BOGT Philippines Team. HandoutAhead of their international performance, BOGT Philippines, in collaboration with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), will stage a fundraising send-off show of “13th of September” on August 10 at the Tanghalang Ignacio Gimenez within the CCP Complex. Performances are scheduled at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., with proceeds supporting the group’s participation in the prestigious event.</div>Ticket prices are set at P1,000 for center seats and P800 for side seats, available via Ticketworld, the CCP Box Office, and through online platforms.“13th of September” is a reimagined adaptation by Palanca award-winning playwright Eljay Castro Deldoc of Lanie Robertson’s “The Insanity of Mary Girard.” Directed by ALIW and LEAF awardee Riki Benedicto, the production promises a powerful retelling of the harrowing story of Mary Girard, a woman confined to an asylum in 18th-century Philadelphia after being declared legally insane by her husband.Acclaimed director and actor Andoy Ranay will headline the production, alongside seasoned stage actors Lao Rodriguez and Drew Espenocilla. The play delves into themes of empowerment, injustice, and the complexities of mental health, offering a visceral narrative that has resonated with audiences in past international showcases in Canada and Germany.The Philippine delegation to Monaco includes BOGT’s production and stage manager Katreen Dela Cruz, production designer JayLo Conanan, lighting designer Roldan Lozano, and projection designer Ces Valera. They are set to perform at the renowned Princess Grace Theater on August 26 and 27, where “13th of September” will close the festival alongside entries from Lithuania and Morocco.This marks the Philippines’ return to the Mondial du Théâtre, a prestigious quadrennial theater festival founded in 1957, following the Philippine High School for the Arts&#x27; (PHSA) participation in 1997 with the dance-drama “Labaw Donggon.” That production featured a team of National Artists and cultural icons, including Joey Ayala, Agnes Locsin, and Nanding Josef.
