<p>MANILA -- Multi-disciplinary creative Aimee Bernardo transforms her encounters with nature into living canvases in her latest exhibit, “Into Me I See,” now on view at Gallery Big in Mandaluyong City until October 9.</p><p>“I lived in Subic for three years. It is having a dialogue with myself,” she said in an interview on Saturday. “You hear the birds in the morning, rustling of leaves. When the wind passes, you can hear it. Paano ko siya gawin into art na gumagalaw? It is, as Bernardo described, a thank-you and visual love letter to nature, with each piece born from an experience and emotion felt in the moment.</p><p>“My exhibit is I want to share what I was feeling while living in nature,” she recalled. “In music, they write songs when they are heartbroken. It becomes a hit. When I am feeling something, I turn it into art. How can I turn my sadness and happiness into something I can share with other people? What I feel, I turn into art.”</p><p>Color plays a central role, inspired by the delicacy of the peony flower. Only one piece, “A Lonely Moonlight,” departs into black and white.</p><p>Bernardo&#x27;s path to visual art started from photography, but she said she was drawn to painting and mixed media in 2015. “With technology, everyone is a photographer. Now I focus on being an artist. I never looked back,” she enthused. “This is really what I love. It is authentic, and you know how to express it. I want to do it for the rest of my life.”</p><p>Bernardo’s work had always been deeply personal. She began painting after the death of her father at 54, a loss that left her searching for a way to communicate unspoken words.</p><p>“There is so much more I wanted to say to him,” she admitted. “So I turned to art. The conversations I want to tell him, and did not get to tell him, I communicate in my art. I just want him to be proud of me.”</p><p>Through “Into Me I See,” Bernardo hopes viewers step into her world of color, texture, and rhythm — and leave seeing nature, and themselves, in a new way.</p><p>“They have their own interpretation, emotion. It becomes their stories — and I love their stories,” she reasoned. </p><p>Bernardo is eyeing working on another collection, this time with furniture. </p>
