Handout</div>Fifty years after opening its doors, Ali Mall remains one of Metro Manila&#x27;s most recognizable shopping destinations, celebrating a legacy that mirrors the evolution of Philippine retail.Located in Araneta City in Quezon City, the mall opened on June 30, 1976, a year after American boxing legend Muhammad Ali fought Joe Frazier in the historic &quot;Thrilla in Manila&quot; at the Araneta Coliseum. Ali himself attended the mall&#x27;s inauguration, which was named in his honor.When it opened, Ali Mall introduced several innovations that helped reshape the country&#x27;s shopping experience. It housed the first two cinemas inside a Philippine shopping mall and later featured the first multi-level parking facility directly connected to a mall on every floor.In 1979, Ali Mall opened the Food Gallery, described by Araneta City as the country&#x27;s first dedicated fast-food center inside a shopping mall.Over the decades, the mall expanded beyond retail, becoming a hub for government and financial services. Today, it houses satellite offices of several government agencies, including one of the largest branches of the Department of Foreign Affairs&#x27; NCR Northeast office, alongside banks and other essential services.The mall has also added Ali X, a lifestyle wing featuring antiques, collectibles, artwork and memorabilia, catering to shoppers looking for specialty items.For many Filipinos, Ali Mall has long served as a gathering place for shopping, dining and entertainment, with generations of visitors returning to the mall over the years.To commemorate its 50th anniversary, Araneta City is holding a digital promotion until July 5 for people born in 1976.
