Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News/File</div>A majority of Filipino travelers are flying within the country for Holy Week, likely to return to their home provinces or take breaks in domestic destinations, according to data from travel platform AirAsia MOVE released Tuesday.MOVE&#x27;s data showed that most bookings for Holy Week 2026 on its platform are for domestic travel, with 82 percent flying within the Philippines and 18 percent traveling internationally.More than half of bookings or 55 percent depart from the capital Manila, which MOVE said reflected its &quot;role as the country’s primary economic hub.&quot;Other key departure points include Cebu at 12 percent; Iloilo and Tacloban (Leyte) at 5 percent; and Caticlan (Malay, Aklan) and Puerto Princesa (Palawan) at 2 percent each. The remaining 19 percent of bookings come from other regional airports across the country.Nearly half or 40 percent of Manila-based travelers usually fly to Cebu, Iloilo, or Tacloban, while 17 percent are headed to beach destinations like Boracay and Puerto Princesa. Another nine percent are traveling to nearby international cities such as Taipei, Taiwan, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.Among Manila-based travelers, just over half or 56 percent are flying solo, while 18 percent are couples, 15 percent are traveling with children, and 11 percent are in groups of friends, according to MOVE.With regards to the length of stay, most trips are short with 40 percent lasting around three to four days while 26 percent extending to five to six days.Filipino travelers also book early, with 29 percent securing trips for 15 to 30 days in advanced while 22 percent booking 31 to 60 days ahead, MOVE data showed, adding that last-minute booking remains minimal at 2 percent.Holy Week is typically a peak travel season in the Catholic-majority Philippines, as many Filipinos either return to their hometowns or take vacations during the long weekend.
