<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1780452320603DSCF0701.JPG" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/>Handout</div>MANILA — The Philippine coffee industry will gather in Makati City this week for the Philippine Coffee Expo 2026, a three-day event aimed at strengthening collaboration across the coffee value chain and addressing the country&#x27;s continued reliance on imported beans.The expo, organized by the Philippine Coffee Guild, will be held June 5 to 7 at The Space at One Ayala under the theme &quot;Creating Shared Ground.&quot;Billed as the country&#x27;s largest coffee industry gathering, the event will bring together farmers, cooperatives, traders, roasters, café owners, equipment suppliers and coffee enthusiasts for exhibitions, competitions, forums and tasting sessions designed to promote a more sustainable and globally competitive local coffee sector.Organizers said this year&#x27;s theme emphasizes the importance of building stronger relationships throughout the industry through collaboration, knowledge-sharing and open dialogue.Among the highlights is the Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC), which recognizes outstanding Philippine-grown coffees and the producers behind them. The competition&#x27;s awarding ceremony will honor top coffee growers, while a live auction will connect buyers directly with winning producers.The expo will also feature &quot;Kape&#x27;t Kwentuhan,&quot; a series of informal discussions involving farmers, roasters, baristas and industry leaders, as well as a Roasters and Producers Forum focused on issues affecting the coffee supply chain, including climate resilience, processing standards and price volatility.Coffee tasting sessions will take place at the Cupping Exchange, where attendees can sample coffees from different regions and learn about various processing and roasting methods. Organizers said the venue will also serve as the primary tasting area for the award-winning coffees from the PCQC.Other attractions include the Roaster Fiesta, which showcases coffees from local roasters and producers; the Community Brew Bar, a collaborative space for coffee education and appreciation; the Signature Beverage Challenge, a competition highlighting innovative coffee-based drinks; and the Master Barista Challenge, which tests competitors on speed, consistency and beverage quality.The Philippine Coffee Guild said the expo seeks to address what industry stakeholders call the country&#x27;s &quot;import gap.&quot; Organizers estimate that about 70% of the coffee beans used by local businesses are imported despite the Philippines producing four commercially viable coffee varieties: Arabica, Robusta, Liberica, locally known as Barako, and Excelsa.To help narrow that gap, the expo will promote technology adoption in farming and post-harvest processing, encourage relationship-based trading models and increase market visibility for locally grown coffee varieties.Organizers said the event aims to create opportunities for Philippine coffee to become more competitive internationally while building a more resilient and self-sustaining industry at home.&quot;The Expo is not just about acknowledging quality,&quot; organizers said in a statement. &quot;It is about creating pathways for Philippine coffee to thrive sustainably and competitively on the world stage.&quot;
