<p>An essential ingredient to success that gets overlooked by restaurants is the value of having a sense of place. In that sense, The Loggia by Margarita Forés hits it out of the park. In many ways, the venue itself is equally important to what the place is trying to achieve. </p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:900px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1733758687220Loggia_0086.JPG" style="width:900px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner">The Loggia is where great food meets great ambience </span></span></span></div><p>The Loggia is located in the rather beautiful grounds of the Lhuillier family’s Palacio de Memoria. The Palacio—definitely big enough to be called a palace—is a pre-war structure that was spared by the war and is now restored to its old glory. If you ever wanted to travel back in time to the era of grand, happening Manila of pre-war times, this is one place to start. It is a stunning structure that now houses furniture and art work, and is also used for events and receptions.</p><p>The grounds, itself, though, is something to behold—maybe because there really isn’t anything like it in the metropolis: a sprawling private garden with old trees and a transporting vibe. Eccentrically displayed on one part of the garden are some old airplanes—not single engine turbo props, mind you, but full sized commercial planes, with one of them converted into a very cool bar, fitted out with funky furniture—guaranteed to be one of the most out there places to grab a drink.</p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:600px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1733758851682Loggia_0001.JPG" style="width:600px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner">An elegant setting </span></span></span></div><p>Beside the Palacio lies the Loggia, which means “a gallery or room with one or more open sides, especially one that forms part of the house and has one side open to the garden.” It is, indeed, an extension of the grand Palacio facing the greenery, albeit an area that is more relaxed, yet still very genteel in nature. Covered with a roof to shield you from the elements, it was especially popular during pandemic days when all you could go to were restaurants with outdoor seating.</p><p>Some tables are located in the garden, while others under the covered area, along some cozy couches too: an elegant setting for enjoying Ms Fores’s Italian cuisine with touches of Filipino. Recently relaunched during the more normal times we currently live in, their kitchen brought out the quality they are known for: dashing waitstaff roving around with signature bites and glasses of white wine. A burrata and antipasti bar, with items not seen very often like duck prosciutto and game salami, all from Italy. A glistening lechon was on display too, with their signature mostarda condiment as well as a home made liver sauce. Pasta stations where the noodles were treated with reverence, the most popular being tossed in a giant wheel of cheese. </p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:600px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1733758929742Loggia_0069.JPG" style="width:600px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner">Paellas </span></span></span></div><p>Eating all these dishes whilst sipping wine and enjoying each other’s company in this setting is such a rarity these days. Sure, you can do this in any restaurant. But surrounded by greenery and a magnificent old house along the bay? It is a sure win for those who want to escape the concrete jungle. Go on a special date. Or even just hang with your friends for sunset cocktails.
