<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2016/lifestyle2/05/24/052416-dostv.jpg"/></figure></div><p>MANILA - The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is set to broadcast an online TV channel starting May 30.</p><p>DOSTv is aimed at showcasing local science and technology news and features. It will also initially highlight weather forecasts and updates as the “Filipino Weather Channel.”</p><p>It will first air live over the Internet via <a href="www.dostv.ph" target="_blank">www.dostv.ph</a> and also through its own <a href="http://www.dostv.ph/youtube" target="_blank">YouTube</a> channel.</p><p>The new service will also have its own <a href="https://www.facebook.com/DOSTvPH/" target="_blank">Facebook</a>, Instagram [EMBED LINK: instagram.com/dostvph], and <a href="http://www.twitter.com/DOSTvPH" target="_blank">Twitter</a> channels.</p><p>The first Filipino-built micro-satellite, the Diwata-1, is slated to be its first science story to be broadcast on May 30.</p><div><a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/04/27/16/astronauts-send-greetings-as-diwata-1-launched-into-orbit" target="_blank"><strong>&quot;Astronauts send greetings as Diwata-1 launched into orbit&quot;</strong></a></div><p>With a powerful camera and multispectral imager, Diwata-1, launched last April 27, is intended for disaster management and risk reduction, and weather monitoring. Its deployment length is at least 18 months.</p><p>In a statement, the DOST said DOSTv&#x27;s weather updates should enable for better decision making in times of adverse conditions</p><p>&quot;Weather updates are important in disaster preparedness, especially in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and other hazards,&quot; DOST said.</p>
