Their openness to pursuing beauty enhancements is largely influenced by clinics, influencers, and celebrities who have helped normalize the idea that it’s perfectly fine to make improvements.What someone does to enhance their appearance is nobody else’s concern. Comments about a person’s looks should be avoided, as long as they are happy with themselves.In an interview with ABS-CBN News, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Madeleine Montinola admitted that she was initially surprised by how much money individuals would spend on beauty enhancements.“‘Yun ‘yung hindi ko naiintindihan dati na bakit may mga patient na handang gumastos kahit ang mahal-mahal. ‘Yun pala, they get that good feeling about themselves na ang ganda-ganda nila,” she said.“Ikaw ang makakapagsabi sa sarili mo kung maganda or sexy ka. Self-appreciation is when you can tell yourself you&#x27;re beautiful and sexy. You are not dependent on the approval of others,” she added. For her, improving beauty entails not just using the tools, but also knowing the art of beauty, as each person&#x27;s face is unique.“When I see someone&#x27;s face, I know what I need to fix. As a cosmetic surgeon, you must evaluate the symmetry, angles, and proportions. It is not just changing appearances, but also redefining confidence,” the founder of Montinola Aesthetic Laser Centerb stressed.Dr. Montinola specializes in 360-degree stomach liposuction and advanced body sculpting techniques.When asked about her approach as a cosmetic surgeon, she answered, “I&#x27;m really more into, well, above natural. Kung mayroong overly done, hindi ako ganoon. I promote natural-looking only.”She opened her clinic in 2020 to promote just that: natural-looking results. Photos by Josh Mercado </div>Dr. Montinola also spoke with ABS-CBN News about some of the latest beauty trends, such as the Gold Laser Pro or Yellow Laser, Tornado DermaClear, European lips, and, of course, liposuction. She also put an end to the overfilled lips and cheeks trend.Gold Laser Pro targets inflamed blood vessels, decreases redness, and relieves rosacea flare-ups.“It&#x27;s good for the skin. Maganda siya for active acne. Very humid tayo, ‘di ba? So, we always get acne, redness ng skin. It treats them. Maganda rin siya for spider veins. ‘Yung mga red veins or ‘yung mga maliliit. And even sa legs, maganda siya. It’s also nice for rejuvenation,” she emphasized.Meanwhile, Tornado Facial is a hydradermabrasion treatment that uses a revolving tip to cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize the skin, leaving it beautiful and smooth. The strong suction eliminates dead skin cells and dirt from pores while also delivering vitamins and antioxidants to the skin, making it a safe and efficient treatment for enhancing skin tone and texture.She went on to add that the overfilled lips style has ended, and that the new trend is European lips, which have smooth curves, well-defined contours, and prominent corners. The overfilled cheeks style has likewise passed, with more natural cheek fillers becoming the new trend.Finally, Dr. Montinola stated that liposuction remains a popular procedure in the beauty market, but patients must closely adhere to the after-care instructions in order to attain the desired shape.“It’s not entirely permanent. It depends on lifestyle — diet, exercise, and overall health,” she clarified.She also warned about having too much liposuction in one area of the body.“Ayaw ko rin ng lipo nang lipo sa same area. Kasi ‘yung quality ng skin ay masisira. And, another misconception is ‘yung sinasagad. Hindi puwede ‘yun. Why? I always tell patients that the quality of the skin is coming from the fat layer of the skin. ‘Yun ang nagbibigay ng magandang color ng skin natin. That&#x27;s where the nutrients are. So, ‘pag tinanggal mo siya lahat or talagang pinasagad mo, mamamatay ‘yung skin,” she explained.
