Credit: NIAID</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The first two cases of mpox in Quezon City have completely recovered and reintegrated into the community, according to the Quezon City Health Department.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/health-wellness/2024/8/22/mpox-disease-presents-hard-to-weigh-risks-944">• Mpox disease presents hard-to-weigh risks</a></div><p>In a press conference Tuesday, Sarah Conclara, head of the city’s mpox surveillance unit, said the third patient has also recovered but is awaiting teleconsult prior the issuance of a medical clearance.</p><p>However, another patient has since tested positive for the virus. Conclara said the latest case is a male of working age.</p><p>She said a doctor that the patient had visited &quot;<span id="isPasted" style="color:rgb(65, 65, 65);letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:left;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:normal;background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255);text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;display:inline !important;float:none">noticed lesions behind the ear and upper extremities&quot;, prompting the referral to the city health department.</span> </p><p>The patient tested positive via PCR earlier this month. </p><p>Fourteen close contacts have been identified by health authorities — almost all are the patient’s workmates. So far, only seven of them have responded to their messages. </p><p>Conclara added that the patient was not fully honest during their initial investigation. </p><p>“The patient declared initially he did not go to work anymore right after he had experienced the onset of symptoms. But upon further investigation and verification sa workplace, it has been found out na nakapasok pa siya. Critical kasi even just one day na the patient goes to work.”</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/health-wellness/2024/9/15/doh-questions-efficacy-of-imported-mpox-vaccines-1958">• DOH questions efficacy of &#x27;imported&#x27; mpox vaccines</a></div><div><strong>PENALTIES FOR NOT COOPERATING WITH HEALTH AUTHORITIES?</strong></div><p>Health authorities have repeatedly appealed to patients and close contacts to consider the safety of other people by cooperating and telling contact tracers the truth so that proper measures can be undertaken. </p><p>Quezon City Councilor Bernard Herrera said they are now mulling the possibility of strengthening penalties for those who will be found uncooperative to the local government’s contact tracers.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/health-wellness/2024/8/30/is-there-a-way-to-detect-mpox-early-1357">• Is there a way to detect mpox early?</a></div><p>“That’s one way to make sure na mag-cooperate sila. Number One diyan is fine, it’s still an option,” Herrera said.</p><p>(That’s one way to make sure they cooperate.
