Karen Davila/YouTube</div>Before finding the love of her life in her husband Marco Alcaraz, Lara Quigaman went through a toxic relationship that she thought she could not get out of. The former Miss International tearfully opened up about one of her darkest moments as she was interviewed in the vlog of &quot;TV Patrol&quot; anchor Karen Davila.&quot;It became abusive physically, emotionally, so talagang ang hirap,&quot; said Quigaman, who was in showbiz at the time. &quot;May times na pupunta ako sa taping and after, you go back there [with him].&quot;&quot;I felt like I was so trapped,&quot; she admitted. &quot;And feeling ko talaga, there was no way for me to escape... and nobody could ever love me anymore.&quot;Quigaman said her friends already got mad at her for putting up with the relationship, and it was only until her mother stepped in that she was able to end it after almost three years. The former beauty queen has nothing but gratitude for her mom, who only showed love and support instead of judging her wrong decisions. &quot;I never told my mom pero I woke up one day, andoon siya sa tabi ko. Tapos nagulat ako umiiyak siya, tapos niyakap lang niya ako. My mom, who was living in Canada, she flew for some reason. I don&#x27;t know who told her and how she found out. Then she said, &#x27;I&#x27;m gonna help you,&#x27;&quot; she said.Quigaman, who opted not to disclose the identity of her ex-boyfriend, went on: &quot;So kinausap niya the guy and talked to the family, too. She said, &#x27;Please leave Lara alone.&#x27; Kasi ako, I don&#x27;t think I would have left if it wasn&#x27;t for my mom coming over and pulling me away. So that was the end of that.&quot;&quot;No judgment from my mom. Niyakap lang niya ako and said, &#x27;We&#x27;re gonna do something about it.&#x27; God used my mom to rescue me talaga.&quot;According to Quigaman, it took &quot;many, many years&quot; for her to recover from her difficult past.&quot;Even until now, may times I would still feel parang very guilty about it. Even though parang iniisip ko, kasalanan ko ba?&quot; she shared. &quot;Akala natin tayo ang may kasalanan, that&#x27;s why it&#x27;s so hard to get out of it. Kasi you feel na you deserve to be there,&quot; she added. &quot;But no, there&#x27;s always hope. There&#x27;s always a way out.&quot;True enough, Quigaman is now in a much better place. She has been working as a <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/showbiz/celebrities/2026/4/6/lara-quigaman-shares-experience-working-as-preschool-teacher-in-canada-1151">preschool teacher in Canada</a> and is enjoying her life as a wife to Alcaraz and a mom to their three sons.&quot;&#x27;Yung feeling mo na akala mo wala nang magmamahal sa &#x27;yo... and then I met Marco.
