ABS-CBN News' Bianca Dava joins inaugural Southeast Asia maritime fellowship

<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17615465536150-02-07-a8a849d4951ad93a69e3101763494f30e9580956de9d2897421640d92509a70d_2232e48fdfe.jpg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>MANILA (UPDATED) — ABS-CBN News reporter Bianca Dava, who covers defense, is among 12 journalists from Southeast Asia selected to take part in a fellowship focused on reporting maritime issues.</p><p>Dava will participate in the Southeast Asia Maritime Media Visits Project (SEAMMVP) in Canberra, Australia from October 27 to 31.</p><p>Organized by La Trobe Asia and La Trobe University Australia and sponsored by the Australian government, the SEAMMVP aims to deepen journalists&#x27; understanding of maritime governance, law and security, in order to strengthen reporting on maritime issues in the Southeast Asia region.</p><p>Throughout the program, participants will take part in workshops, policy dialogues and institutional visits with Australian officials, academics, and defense experts.</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17615465684560-02-07-3620262426fbff5bf4bbb4d60c0037e8516f09101fb4f81abbde0433abd50fab_2232e48214f.jpg" style="width:633px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>The visit to Canberra will serve as the first component of the program, with the second part to be held in Manila in early 2026.</p><p>Dava covers defense for ABS-CBN News, including developments in the West Philippine Sea. She was previously recognized with the Distinguished Achievement Award by the National Defense College Alumni Association Inc. (NDCPAAI) for her work.</p><p>Most recently, Dava released the documentary “Grief Takes A Village,” featuring stories of those affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck northern Cebu.</p>
