<p>MANILA -- Batangas First District Representative Leandro Leviste has purchased the house in Wilhelmsfeld, Germany where national hero Jose Rizal completed the final chapters of his novel “Noli Me Tangere.” </p><p>In a <a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.facebook.com/lingkodlegardaleviste/posts/pfbid0PuWXmxY6scnASVWXeKRt3LpFEkAcjQ5jiSk6Uj7gqhj7pJ2v2xidBMZADX9aCeUKl?mibextid=wwXIfr&amp;rdid=4AD2zn55x3S9mmbk#">Facebook post on Sunday</a>, the lawmaker shared he acquired the historic home with plans to preserve the property and convert it into a museum highlighting Philippine history.</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Flingkodlegardaleviste%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0PuWXmxY6scnASVWXeKRt3LpFEkAcjQ5jiSk6Uj7gqhj7pJ2v2xidBMZADX9aCeUKl&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=500" width="500" height="704" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>“Binili ni Congressman Leandro Legarda Leviste ang bahay sa Wilhelmsfeld, Germany kung saan isinulat ni Jose Rizal ang mga huling kabanata ng Noli Me Tangere, para sa pagpreserba nitong bahay at pagtataguyod ng kasaysayan ng Pilipinas,” it read.</p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/1/21/industry-group-belies-leviste-claim-doe-not-helping-renewable-energy-players-1808"><strong>Industry group belies Leviste claim DOE not helping renewable energy players</strong></a> </div><p>The property is said to be a home where Rizal stayed in 1886 while studying ophthalmology at the University of Heidelberg upon the invitation of his friend, Pastor Karl Ullmer. </p><p>The historic site had also served as the residence of Wilhelmsfeld pastors since 1886 but was left unused after the COVID-19 pandemic. </p><p>The opportunity to preserve it was brought to the attention of Loren Legarda, who suggested that her son acquire the property using private funds and convert it into a museum open to Filipinos and international visitors. </p><p>A signing ceremony for the purchase was held last week with the presence of Dr. Franz Hack Ullmer, great-grandson of Pastor Ullmer; Protestant church representatives that previously owned the house; Wilhelmsfeld mayor Dr. Tobias Dangel; and Herbert Ehses, German chapter commander of the Knights of Rizal. </p><div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/1/21/leviste-tells-energy-chief-garin-it-s-malicious-to-call-me-a-flipper-1258"><strong>Leviste tells Energy chief Garin: &#x27;It&#x27;s malicious to call me a flipper&#x27;</strong></a> </div><p>“Ibinigay din ni Dr. Ullmer kay Cong. Leandro ang isang lamesa na kahawig ng lamesang pinagsulatan ni Rizal ng Noli Me Tangere, kasama ang iba pang mga bagay mula sa Rizal collection ng pamilyang Ullmer,” according to Leviste&#x27;s post. </p><p>Local officials also toured the congressman around Rizal-related landmarks in Wilhelmsfeld, including a statue of Rizal at Rizal Park and the street where the house stands, now named Jose Rizal Strasse. </p><p>Leviste said the preservation of the house aims to safeguard a key historical site where ideas that helped inspire the Philippine Revolution and shape the Filipino nation were formed.</p><div> </div>
