<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1774495653123Lubog.JPG" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib fr-dragging" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner">Screen grab: YouTube/ABS-CBN News</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — ABS-CBN News’ flood control documentary made it to the shortlist of the 2026 New York Festivals TV &amp; Film Awards for Best Documentary in the Current Affairs category.</p><p>The shortlist, which is composed of various TV and film entries from around the world, was released by the organization on its official website.</p><p>Produced by ABS-CBN News Documentaries, “Lubog sa Katiwalian” (Drowning in a Sea of Corruption) is a 2025 documentary that looks into the anomalies and controversies in the country’s flood control projects, and reveals how the system is rigged to favor several contractors from a project’s inception and how lawmakers gain from fraudulent practices. The investigative feature takes us to different communities across the country that continue to struggle with perennial flooding — even during fair weather and with flood control projects supposedly in place.</p><p>The documentary is written and directed by journalists Raphael Bosano, Katrina Domingo and Andrea Taguines, edited by Armand Sol and Alan Cablao and produced by Dianne RJ Obdin, Cara Mae Bilangel, Bill Barrinuevo, Jerico Guardiano, JC Gonzales, Chi Almario, Paul Espiritu, Miranda de Quiros, Jess Fenol and Jeff Canoy. Research was provided by Alyssa Carmina Gonzales, Pauline Mei Hiwatig, Jay-Ar Gallos, Rowena Caronan and the ABS-CBN Research and Verification Unit.</p><p>In a statement, ABS-CBN News Chief Francis Toral highlighted the message of the documentary.</p><p>“Lubog sa Katiwalian is a first-hand deepdive and exposé into the corruption that plagues the country amid the flood control controversy. But beyond that, it also shows that meaningful change can happen in cities where government officials, the private sector, and the people work hand in hand to improve the system and make it work,” Toral said.</p><p>Winners for this year’s New York Festivals will be announced at a storytelling gala ceremony on May 22.</p><p>The New York Festivals TV &amp; Film Awards honors content from over 50 countries.</p><p>In 2025, ABS-CBN returned to documentary production after a four-year hiatus with “BINI Chapter 1: Born to Win.” The documentary became a finalist at the festival for Best Documentary in the Biography and Profiles category.</p><p>Previously, ABS-CBN News nabbed multiple wins in the festival including the Bronze World Medal for Best Public Affairs program for KBYN: Kaagapay ng Bayan, Bronze World Medal for Best Documentary for “#NoFilter: Tao Po”, Gold World Medal for Marawi documentary “Di Ka Pasisiil”, Silver World Medal for modern slavery documentary “Fedelina: A Stolen Life” among others.</p><p>“Lubog sa Katiwalian” is currently streaming on the ABS-CBN News Youtube channel and <a href="https://www.iwanttfc.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">iWant</a><em></em>.</p><div><br/></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/CTz8aDj5HNQ?autoplay=1&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span> </div>
