<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1782444805803730437212_1105362462054322_271740061755421932_n.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/></div>MANILA — Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (Dulaang UP) will mark the 130th anniversary of the death of national hero Jose Rizal with a theater season featuring two productions inspired by his landmark novels “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo.”The university-based theater company announced that its 49th season will present “Fiestas y Muertos” in October 2026 and “Nitrogliserina” in February 2027.Published in 1887 and 1891, respectively, “Noli Me Tangere” and “El Filibusterismo” are considered among the most influential works in Philippine literature. The novels exposed abuses under Spanish colonial rule and helped inspire the country&#x27;s nationalist movement.Opening the season is “Fiestas y Muertos,” based on “Noli Me Tangere” and adapted from the Filipino translation by National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario. The production will be directed by José Estrella and is scheduled for October 2026.The second production, “Nitrogliserina,” is a new play by Guelan Varela-Luarca based on “El Filibusterismo.” It will be directed by Dexter M. Santos and will open in February 2027.Dulaang UP said the two productions form part of its lead-up to the theater company&#x27;s 50th anniversary celebration.
