The Finnish wood sauna notably increases metabolism and blood circulation while helping promote muscle relaxation and releasing tension. I had a thorough steam bath before entering the warm pool, as onsen etiquette is important, especially for hygienic reasons. As the temperature soothed my aches and pains, the pressurized water gave extra relief to my back. After an hour, we put on our <em>yukata</em> (Japanese bathrobe) and were led to a private room for a thorough coffee scrub and a one-hour massage. The full wellness experience put my body in deep relaxation, with the massage having rhythmic pressure using essential oils d\esigned to melt tension away.
