NAIA worker dies of heat stroke

MANILA - An employee of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has died due to suspected heat stroke.The 39-year-old victim, Elmer Limon, was a wheelchair attendant at the NAIA Terminal 2.The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) reported that Limon was found sprawled at Bay 45 last Friday afternoon, minutes after he complained of dizziness and extreme heat while on duty.Dr. Lorena Purisima said Limon was given first aid before he was rushed to the San Juan De Dios Hospital but his vital signs never recovered.The cause of his death was identified as cardio-respiratory arrest.Limon is the first airport worker to die this summer after state weather bureau PAGASA reported a dramatic increase in the <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/nation/04/15/16/dry-season-to-reach-peak-in-may-pagasa">heat index</a> or the heat perceived by the human body.PAGASA and health officials have <a href="http://dzmm.abs-cbnnews.com/publicservice/Atbp./Tips_para_iwas_sakit_ngayong_tag-init.html">warned</a> that heat stroke is probable with continued activity this dry season.To cope with the hot weather, authorities said people should stay indoors and on the lowest floors as much as possible.They added that people should wear light clothes, drink plenty of water, and avoid eating foods high in protein which can increase body heat. -- With a report from Henry Atuelan, dzMM
