<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/news/01/14/011419_xi.jpg"/><figcaption>Russia’s President Vladimir Putin (R) walks past China’s President Xi Jinping during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, November 11, 2014.<em> Kim Kyung-Hoon, Reuters/File</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA - Filipinos trust the US more than its strategic rivals Russia and China, according to a Pulse Asia survey released Tuesday.</p><p>Of 1,800 adults surveyed last December, 84 percent said the Philippines should extend at least a fair amount of trust to the United States.</p><p>On the other hand, most Filipinos say little or no trust at all should be given to Russia and China, at 54 and 60 percent, respectively.</p><div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/news/01/14/011419_pdf1.jpg"/></figure></div><p>President Rodrigo Duterte has rattled the Philippines&#x27; century-old bond with the US while courting stronger ties with Beijing and Moscow.</p><p>The Dec. 14 to 21 survey was conducted about a month after Chinese President Xi Jinping&#x27;s state visit to Manila, and Filipino regulators&#x27; decision to name the consortium of a local firm and the state-run China Telecom as provisional third telco, noted Pulse Asia.</p><p>China and Russia in a March 2017 Pulse Asia survey also got the highest distrust rating at 63 and 56 percent, respectively. The US meanwhile got the highest trust rating at 79 percent.</p><div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/news/01/14/011419_pdf2.jpg"/></figure></div><p>In the latest survey, majority of Filipinos also said Philippines should trust Japan (75 percent), Australia (72 percent), and the United Kingdom (57 percent), as well as the regional blocks ASEAN (82 percent) and the APEC (80 percent).</p><p>&quot;Public opinion in this matter is virtually constant between March 2017 and December 2018,&quot; said Pulse Asia.</p><p>The poll has sampling error margins of ±2.3 percent.</p>
