MANILA - Makati Mayor Abby Binay said she received offensive messages for refusing to suspend classes in the city, and called out people who thought the insults were funny.

In a Facebook post Tuesday night, Binay shared the private messages she received on social media for not suspending classes following the Taal Volcano eruption.

Makati City is 94 kilometers away from Taal Volcano but was affected by ashfall following Sunday's eruption.

Binay lamented how she is at the receiving end of such messages, noting this is something most parents do not know about their children.

"This is a just one of several private messages I receive on a daily basis. I see the side of other people's kids that they don't show to their parents. What is more scary is there are people who found this post funny!" Binay wrote in her caption.

The messages contained insults like "N*gg*", as well as other threats.
