Hence to ease the burden of our tourists whose flights were canceled during the closure, we are waiving the overstaying fee for those affected,” Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said in a statement.Port operations division chief Grifton Medina clarified that only those who overstayed because their flights were supposed to depart during the airport closure would be exempt from paying fines.Medina said those exempt from the charges must present at least one of the following: <ul>	<li>Boarding pass within the affected period </li>	<li>Outbound ticket dated January 12 or 13, 2020</li>	<li>Canceled immigration departure stamp bearing the same date</li></ul>Medina said that those whose visas have long expired are not exempt from penalties. Numerous flights were canceled after they were unable to depart from or land at the NAIA Sunday and Monday due to heavy ashfall and volcanic debris that posed risks to air travel.
