MANILA—A state of calamity was declared in Cavite on Wednesday, as several towns were engulfed in ash following the eruption of Taal Volcano, Vice-Governor Jolo Revilla said.

Several areas in Cavite, including Tagaytay City, were covered in ash and mud stopping work, forcing suspension of classes, and disrupting the lives of thousands.

Ash fall also interrupted power supply in nearby areas, including Silang and Tagaytay.
