MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte met Thursday with the family of a Filipino migrant worker imprisoned in Bahrain, ahead of their “compassionate visit” on Saturday.

Duterte talked to the family of Roderick Aguinaldo at the Villamor Airbase, where they also received financial help from the President’s former aide, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, according to a Palace statement.

Aguinaldo has been in a Bahrain prison for 3 years for killing a Pakistani national. The Bahraini government, according to Malacañang, had previously vowed not to carry out capital punishment.

Aguinaldo was meted capital punishment in 2018.
