MANILA - An official of the MRT-3 on Wednesday offered to vacate his post after House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez scolded him over still-unresolved glitches of the train system. MRT-3 General Manager Rodolfo Garcia made the announcement after a heated exchange with Alvarez during a joint hearing of the House Committee on Transportation and Committee on Public Works and Highways.Alvarez, during the hearing, scolded Garcia for MRT-3 passengers&#x27; woes, such as frequent breakdowns of trains and overcrowding.&quot;Tingnan mo kung convenient ba yung pasahero. Safe ba sa kanila ang pumila ng kahaba-haba? Ilang kilometro yung pila. Ito yung kinakampanya nung Presidente nung eleksyon: nirereklamo niya, kawawa yung mga tao, kahaba ng pila. Nilagay ka diyan para ayusin ang problema,&quot; Alvarez said.The MRT official said they were addressing the problem by completing the work on the new coaches from Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co. of China, which would augment the limited number of trains that run daily. The Speaker, however, said the signalling system of the Dalian coaches was not compatible with the present system, and challenged Garcia if he was sure of what he was doing. &quot;Then, I will resign kung hindi ako sigurado,&quot; Garcia said, earning the warning of lawmakers to be respectful.Garcia apologized to Alvarez, who later asked whether he was bent on resigning.&quot;Yes, your honor.
