The Philippines has joined the list of countries with cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus. Here are the big stories making the headlines on ANC today:

Keeping nCoV out
The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed that the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is now in the Philippines. After saying there was no need to impose a travel ban on Chinese tourists citing diplomatic and political repercussions, Health Sec. Francisco Duque III said he is strongly recommending a ban on travelers from the Hubei province. President Duterte said he was not keen on barring Chinese tourists from the country. Let’s see if he will change his mind now.

Heeding his wishes
The Palace said President Duterte’s ban on US travel by Cabinet members also covers family trips. Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said members of the president’s official family should heed the wishes of the Chief Executive.

Grand conspiracy?
A lawyer of Kingdom of Jesus Christ leader and close friend of President Duterte, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, claimed the arrest of three members of his church in Los Angeles was a “grand conspiracy” meant to “shame” the religious leader. Israelito Torreon said the charges were trumped up by disgruntled former members.

Deal breaker
The finance department said it is expanding its probe into alleged onerous contracts with the private sector. Finance Sec. Sonny Dominguez said his office is looking into another contract. Earlier, the DOF flagged a deal with oil company Chevron. Deals with water concessionaires Maynilad and Manila Water are also under scrutiny.
