Former CBS News Manila correspondent Gaby Tabuñar dies at 94

Contributed by Dario Agnote</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA – Retired Filipino journalist Gabino “Gaby” Tabuñar, Jr. passed away on Tuesday. He was 94.According to the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP), Tabuñar, a former Manila correspondent of the US broadcast network CBS News, succumbed to pneumonia while confined at the Makati Medical Center.“Gaby died peacefully in the embrace of his children after final prayers by a priest at the Makati Med, and he heard his favorite song, ‘Summer Wind,’ by Frank Sinatra,” FOCAP said in a statement.“He loved his country and he had lots of hope for this country but sometimes muttered,” Tabuñar’s eldest daughter, Mao, told FOCAP. The longtime CBS News Manila correspondent and FOCAP member saw Philippine history unfold from World War II until the various political transitions in succeeding decades.FOCAP, which was co-founded in 1974 by Tabuñar with other journalists like Teddy Benigno of Agence France-Presse&#x27;s Manila office, said Tabuñar “was a true friend to many, and a father and mentor to countless journalists.”FOCAP said Tabuñar&#x27;s wake will be at the Loyola Guadalupe (in Makati City), and friends can visit starting Wednesday, Feb. 5.
