MANILA- The Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will finally push through on May 14 following a series of delays.The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Commission on Elections announced Tuesday that the election period will run from April 14 to May 21.Filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) will be from April 14 to 20 while the campaign period will be from May 4 to 12.&quot;Ilang beses na ito na-postpone at maraming nagtatanong kung ito ba ay matutuloy ngayong taon. Tuloy na tuloy po ang barangay and SK election ngayong ika-14 ng Mayo,&quot; Martin Dino, undersecretary for barangay affairs, said.The last barangay elections were held in October 2013, while the last SK elections were held in October of 2010.&quot;Pangatlong try na natin ito. Tuloy na tuloy na ang Barangay at SK elections,&quot; Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said.The DILG also launched Tuesday its campaign urging the public to vote for candidates who are &quot;Matino, Mahusay, at Maaasahan.&quot;Some 55 million voters are registered to vote in the May polls according to Comelec.Officials to be elected on May 14 are a barangay chairman and 7 members of the Sangguniang Barangay (kagawad) as well as a Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson, and 7 members of the council.Voting and counting for the May polls will be manual. &quot;Automated barangay elections have never been an option. It&#x27;s a very small election. Kapag nabilang na sa presinto usually tapos na,&quot; Jimenez said.Comelec, however, warned all candidates to file their Statement of Contribution and Expenditures (SOCE) on or before June 13.Under the law, candidates for the barangay polls are allowed to spend P3 per registered voter in the constituency where he or she filed candidacy, and P5 per voter for those without any support from any political party. Jimenez also assured that the Comelec is ready for the looming polls since ballots have already been printed last year for the supposed October elections.
