DOH seeks justice for barrio doctor killed in hit-and-run

<p>The Department of Health (DOH) is seeking justice for the death of a volunteer doctor struck by a speeding vehicle in Santiago, Agusan del Norte Thursday night. </p><div><script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/OfficialDOHgov/photos/a.812487448762509/2371760762835162/?type=3&amp;theater" data-width="auto"> </div><p>Dr. Zuriele Arambulo was serving under the &quot;Doctor to the Barrios&quot; initiative of DOH, a program which deploys physicians to far-flung and disadvantaged areas.</p><p>&quot;We are saddened that another physician impassioned to serve the Filipino people has been taken at a time when there is a dire need for public health workers in underserved and remote areas of the country,&quot; the DOH said in a statement Friday.</p><p>The 28-year-old doctor was crossing the street to her home when she was hit by a speeding SUV. The driver, who has yet to be identified, drove away from the scene right after the crash.</p><ul class="op-related-articles">	<li><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/02/08/19/doktor-patay-sa-hit-and-run-sa-agusan-del-norte">Doktor patay sa hit-and-run sa Agusan del Norte</a></li></ul><p>Arambulo was brought to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival. </p><p>&quot;The DOH is appealing to the driver of the vehicle to own up to the accident and surrender to the authorities.&quot;</p><p>According to DOH, Arambulo graduated from the Cebu Institute of Medicine in 2017 and passed the licensure exam the following year.</p>
