Duterte accused Washington of taking &quot;so much from us&quot;, even as &quot;so much&quot; of Philippine demands &quot;were not delivered at all.&quot; He said he once told former US President Donald Trump that the Philippines needed US guided rockets, which Manila was willing to pay for, &quot;but until now, it&#x27;s still in the air.&quot; &quot;I would like to put on a notice, if there is an American agent here, that from now on, you want the Visiting Forces Agreement done? You have to pay. It&#x27;s a shared responsibility, but your share of responsibility does not come free,&quot; Duterte said in a speech before troops in a military air base.&quot;After all, when the war breaks out, we all pay. You, kami (us), we are nearest to the garrison where there are a lot of arsenals of the Chinese armed forces.&quot; But in the same speech, Duterte recognized that &quot;the exigency of the moment requires their (US) presence here.&quot; &quot;OK na lang ako d&#x27;yan,&quot; he said. (I&#x27;m just OK with that.)Duterte unilaterally cancelled the two-decade-old VFA last year, in an angry response to an <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/07/08/20/bato-says-us-agreed-to-fix-his-visa-before-vfa-u-turn">ally being denied a visa</a>. The withdrawal period has been twice extended, however, to create what Philippine officials have said is a window for better terms to be agreed.&quot;We at the defense department and the armed forces, the general feeling is for the VFA to continue,&quot; Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana told ANC on Thursday.Philippine and US officials this week met to settle differences over the two-decade-old VFA.
