MANILA - Classes in parts of Davao region were suspended Thursday due to heavy rains, officials said.

As of 8:30 a.m., class suspensions in the elementary and high school levels were declared in the following areas:

Davao City
Malita, Davao Occidental
Samal Island, Samal, Davao del Norte
Compostela Valley
Mati City, Davao Oriental
Tagum City, Davao del Norte

The tail-end of a cold-front is expected to dump moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Davao, Caraga, and Soccsksargen regions Thursday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA warned residents in these areas of possible floods and landslides.

Cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms, meanwhile, are expected over Central and Eastern Visayas and over the rest of Mindanao.

Cagayan Valley, the Bicol region and the rest of Visayas and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon will experience cloudy skies with light rains.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.
