P500K worth of marijuana seized from former professor

Members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Negros Island nabbed a former university professor in a buy-bust operation at South Ceres Terminal at Lopez Jaena Street in Bacolod City on Wednesday.

Atty. Roselyn Borja, PDEA-Negros Island Regional Office head, identified the drug suspect as businessman Edgardo Simons, 55 years old. Simons was a former professor at a known University in Bacolod.

He is also part of the drugs watchlist of PDEA-NIR.

More than 10 kilograms of suspected dried marijuana leaves with an estimated value of P500,000 were seized from Simons.

Borja said the suspected contraband was placed in different containers such as plastic jar, garbage bags, and plastic bags and kept in a big bag.

Simons transported the suspected marijuana, that came from Luzon area, by bus and was supposed to distribute the contraband in Negros, Borja added.
