President Rodrigo Duterte described as “double honor” being adopted by the Philippine Military Academy Class 1967, and formally by the PMA Alumni Association Inc. (PMAAAI) during the homecoming in Baguio City on Saturday.

“I am an adopted Dimasupil Class of 1967,” Duterte said. “That is already honor enough. But to be formally adopted by the Philippine Military Academy Alumni is a double honor in my case because of my long and harmonious relationship with PMA Alumni, not about political consideration.”

To be an honorary member of the PMAAAI, the person should be nominated by at least three PMA batches and will have to undergo an intensive vetting process.

Duterte has been an adopted member of PMA Class 1967 since 1994 when he was then mayor of Davao City.

As a government employee and a public servant, Duterte admitted to being uncomfortable receiving awards and recognitions.

“The work I do, I do in the service of the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, the PMAAAI issued a manifesto of support to Duterte for his efforts to attain peace and order. The association also vowed to show unwavering support the president’s initiatives in the war against heinous crimes and terrorism. With ANC, Pia Gutierrez, ABS-CBN News
