Uncooperative resorts hindering arrest of QC road rage suspect: Boracay police

Atienza is the subject of a manhunt in connection with a deadly traffic altercation in Quezon City on February 25. <cite> Courtesy of Boracay Tourist Action Center</cite></div></figcaption></figure></div><p>Without the cooperation of resort owners, authorities in Boracay, where Fredison Atienza was spotted, have had a difficult time taking into custody the <a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/03/03/17/police-launch-manhunt-vs-qc-road-rage-suspect">suspect</a> in a deadly traffic altercation in Quezon City on February 25.</p><p>Police have obtained photos showing that Atienza stayed at three hotels on the island, but establishment owners refused to hand over copies of their guest lists and closed-circuit television footage, police Senior Inspector Jess Baylon of the Boracay Tourist Action Center said.</p><p>&quot;They were close to locating him in one hotel, but the management&#x27;s refusal to cooperate hindered the operations,&quot; Baylon said.</p><p>Police said Atienza has established contacts with some businessmen in Boracay as he has been a frequent visitor of casinos there long before cases were filed against him.</p><p>Atienza was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser on February 25 when he got into an argument with motorcycle rider Anthony Mendoza after they figured in a near-collision at the corner of D. Tuazon and Quezon Avenue.</p><p>Minutes into their heated exchange, Atienza, from inside his vehicle, fatally shot Mendoza on the head.</p><p>The Quezon City Police District verified Atienza&#x27;s identity based on CCTV footage of his car plate.</p><p>Investigators have not ruled out the possibility that a relative or a friend is deliberately helping Atienza evade arrest, QCPD director Guillermo Eleazar said Friday.</p><p>The QCPD chief appealed to the public to coordinate with authorities if they happen to chance upon the suspect.</p><div><strong>— with reports from Joyce Clavecillas, ABS-CBN News</strong></div>
