MANILA - Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa on Monday said he has ordered the Finance Service to stop the automatic loan payments of his personnel to 6 multipurpose cooperatives.

About 74 PNP personnel complained against the multipurpose cooperatives for allegedly charging excessive interest rates and prolonging the term of payment of loans without their knowledge.

"In this regard, I am reiterating my command to PNP unit commanders to look after the welfare of their personnel and ensure that no PNP personnel will be aggrieved by the said loan sharks," Dela Rosa said in a press briefing at Camp Crame on Monday.

Most of the complainants are those with ranks Police Officer 3 and Police Officer 2.

Dela Rosa instructed the Finance Service to investigate the issue and come up with solutions.

"I am directing the Finance Service to continue conducting investigation of PNP personnel who are being victimized by loan sharks and come up with solutions to the issue," the country's top cop said.

Appropriate sanctions will be imposed by the PNP against erring lending financial institutions, he added.

Dela Rosa also reminded his men to settle their loans.

"Kami ayaw naming ma-agrabyado ang aming pulis ha. Kailangan hindi sila malulugi sa kanilang transaction. But at the same time, we also see to it that our policemen are in good moral standing. Kapag mangutang ka, bayaran mo. Wala kaming pakialam kung sino may kasalanan, yung nangutang ba o inutangan. Basta huwag kaming idadamay sa problema," he said.

The PNP's Committee on Accreditation and Automatic Deductions is set to meet with the six multipurpose cooperatives tomorrow.
