<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2017/news/01/11/solder.jpg"/></figure></div><p><br/>Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Saturday commended female cadets at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), saying their achievements were an “incredible way to celebrate International Women’s Day.”</p><p>Lorenzana, guest of honor during the PMA parade and awarding ceremony, bestowed medals on the top graduates of the PMA Salaknib Class of 2017. Of the 10 awardees, 8 were women.</p><div><strong>Here are the 10 cadets given merit and other awards:</strong></div><div><strong>1.    Rovi Mairel Valino Martinez, C-17178 CCAFP Philippine Navy from Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija </strong></div><p>Martinez was No. 1 in the Merit Roll and bagged 10 awards such as Presidential Saber, Philippine Navy Saber, Cum Laude, Academic Group Award, Social Sciences Plaque, Navy Prof Courses Plaque, Jusmag, AGFO, Spanish and Australian Defense Force Award.</p><div><strong>2.    Philip Modestano Viscaya, C-17272 Philippine Army Ligao City, Albay</strong></div><p>He placed 2nd in the Merit Roll and received a Vice Presidential Saber, and a Philippine Army Saber. He was also class Cum Laude.</p><div><strong>3.    Era Glis Buansi Marapao, C-17172 Philippine Navy Camp Henry Allen, Baguio City</strong></div><p>She was 3rd in the Merit Roll, and received a Secretary of National Defense Saber. She was class Cum Laude.</p><div><strong>4.    Cathleen Jovi Santiano Baybayan, C-17039 Philippine Army from Dolores City of San Fernando, Pampanga.</strong></div><p>She was 4th on the Merit Roll and received the Australian Defence Best Overall Performance Award, and Natural Sciences Plaque.</p><div><strong>5.    Carlo Emmanuel Manalansan Canlas, C-17062 Philippine Air Force from Lubao, Pampanga</strong></div><p>He was 5th on the Merit Roll and received a Philippine Air Force Saber.</p><div><strong>6.    Shiela Joy Ramiro Jallorina, C-17129 Philippine Air Force from Murung, Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya</strong></div><p>She was 6th on the Merit Roll and bagged four awards such as the Tactics Group Award, Department of Leadership Plaque, Air Force Professional Courses Plaque, and Aguinaldo Saber.</p><div><strong>7.    Sheila Marie Calonge De Guzman, C-17086 Philippine Army Manaog, Pangasinan </strong></div><p>She was 7th in the Merit Roll, and received an Army Professional Courses Plaque.</p><div><strong>8.    Joyzy Mencias Funchica, C-17111 Philippine Air Force from Butuan City </strong></div><p>She placed 8th in the Merit Roll.</p><div><strong>9.    Resie Jezreel Arrocena Hucalla, C-17127 Philippine Air Force from Compostela Valley</strong></div><p>Named 9th in the Merit Roll, and received a Management Plaque.</p><div><strong>10.    Catherine Mae Emeterio Gonzales, C-17120 Philippine Air Forcen from Zamboanga, Zamboanga City</strong></div><p>She was 10th in the Merit Roll.</p><p>The awards were given ahead of commencement exercises on Sunday.</p>
