George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News/File photo.</figcaption></figure></div>MAYNILA — Nanumpa kay Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos si San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora bilang bagong Chairman ng Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) ng National Capital Region.Layon ng RPOC na palakasin ang peace and order sa mga munisipalidad sa pakikipagtulungan ng mga lokal na pamahalaan, awtoridad at iba pang sangay ng pamahalaan.Sa pulong nitong Lunes na dinaluhan ng mga alkalde ng Maynila at mga opisyal ng Philippine National Police, muling idiniin ni Abalos ang papel ng pulis at mga alkalde sa peace and order.May operational supervision aniya ang mga municipal at city mayor sa PNP.“Ano ibig sabihin ng operational control at supervision? They have the power to direct day to day ang police. Investigation ng crime. Crime prevention. It shall include deployment through station commander,” ani Abalos.May kapangyarihan din aniyang mamili ng kanilang police ang LGU. Maganda aniya na may koordinasyon ang mga ito laban sa war on drugs lalo na sa “after care” projects o rehabilitasyon.Ani Abalos, 30 porsyento ng mga nakakulong na bumabalik kalaunan sa kulungan, habang 70 porsyento sa mga nakakulong ngayon ay drug related.Importante rin aniya na may CCTV ang bawat LGU para sa peace and order.Nagpasalamat naman si Zamora sa pagtalaga sa kanya bilang chairman ng RPOC NCR.”Nagpapasalamat ako sa pangulo sa tiwala at suporta bilang chairman ng RPOC NCR. Nagpapasalamat din ko sa SILG kasi siya ang nag-endorse sa akin. Masuwerte po ang Metro Manila dahil naiintindhan niya na dahil siya ay nanggaling din bilang mayor. Ang San Juan nabigyan ng pagkilala ng PDEA na 100% ng barangay ay drug-cleared. And most peaceful city (rin). Ang best practices na ito ay sana maipatupad sa buong Metro Manila,” ani Zamora.Napag-usapan naman sa pulong ang “The Big One” kung saan sumulat na si Abalos sa OCD para sa paghahanda dito.Naitalakay din ang jail congestion at iba pang paksa.
