Mapua high school students develop fire alert system

The Mapua team developed the system with funding from the DOST&#x27;s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development, the DOST said.</p><p>Alec Denji Santos, the project&#x27;s team leader, said rising cases of fire as the group learned in school, moved them to come up with the alert system.</p><p>&quot;This caught our attention thinking about what we can do about this alarming situation. The notificiation is also sent to the Bureau of Fire Protection so firefighters can respond faster.</p><p>The system can be scaled up and adopted by government agencies to help mitigate fires, said Enrico Paringit, PCIEERD Executive Director.</p><p>“This spark of ingenuity by our young students from Manila shows that we have a bright future for our scientific community,” he said.</p><div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/life/03/20/20190320-flame-3.jpg"/><figcaption>Project FLAME&#x27;s network topology</figcaption></figure></div><p>Under the DOST&#x27;s Young Innovators Program, high school and college students can get a grant of up to P1 million for their research.</p>
