MANILA - The Quezon City government said Friday it sought the help of tricycle drivers in distributing food packs to families in different villages.

Some 60 tricycle drivers were mobilized to assist the city government in distributing aid, said Assistant City Administrator for Operations Alberto Kimpo. The program, under the Tricycle Regulatory Division, started on Tuesday.

“Inatasan ng LGU ang tricycle drivers para sa paghahatid ng tulong sa ating mga mamamayan para magkaroon din sila ng kita para sa pangangailangan ng kanilang pamilya,” said Kimpo.

(The LGU (local government unit) ordered tricycle drivers in delivering assistance to its constituents so they would also earn money for their families.)

The drivers are from Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA) in the city's 6 districts. They will earn P500 per shift, aside from getting free meals.

The city government is also working on other programs to help tricycle drivers whose livelihoods have been affected by the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

To date, the number of coronavirus cases in the city is at 97.
