MANILA - Former Solicitor General and now senatorial candidate Florin Hilbay on Friday said he was "very much amused" about President Rodrigo Duterte's threat to declare a "revolutionary war".

“Bilang propesor ng constitutional law, I am very much amused doon sa sinabi ni Pangulong Duterte. Dapat pakinggan iyan ng ating military at PNP," he said at a campaign rally in Tondo, Manila.

Ang ating bise magiging commander in chief.

Bam Aquino, another Otso Diretso bet, said there is a need for a free Senate that will uphold the Constitution.

“Wala hong revolutionary government o war sa Saligang Batas. Ang mahalaga po makita natin isang malayang Senado na ang kikilingan ay ang ating Saligang Batas," he said.

Some 400 residents of Baseco Compound in Tondo, Manila gathered past 6 p.m. to listen to senatorial candidates of Otso Diretso.

Samira Gutoc said that while their crowd is comparatively fewer than other campaigns, they are legitimate voters and are not a "hakot" crowd.

It shows na ang daming kinakayod...Yung administrasyon hakot kami crowd na hindi natatakot," she said.

Gary Alejano addressed the congestion in Baseco and said that job opportunities must be developed in provinces to decongest highly populated places in Metro Manila.

We should make rice farming a lucrative endeavor.”

Umulher Muntawal Abdullah, 69, is one of those who danced with the candidates. She said she’s been studying the platforms of the candidates carefully.

“Batas na pantay mayaman o mahirap. Yung mga kurakot wala na yan! Boboto ako, Panginoon ibigay niyo sa akin," she said.

Helen Bernacibo attended with her children. She said she listened well to the platforms shared by the candidates.

She hopes that voters should choose candidates who are dignified and do not engage in vote buying.
