<p>MANILA—Three Filipino students whose work was recognized in a science exhibition in the United States received the honor of having minor planets named after them, the Department of Education announced on Tuesday.</p><p>In a statement posted on Facebook, the DepEd said Keith Russel Cadores, Joscel Kent Manzanero, and Eugene Rivera of Camarines Sur National High School &quot;each received a certificate identifying their very own minor planet and an orbital plot showing its current location.&quot;</p><div><script src="https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&amp;version=v2.5" async="" type="text/javascript"></script></div><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/DepartmentOfEducation.PH/photos/a.380071542052546/2736077973118546/" data-width="auto"> </div><p>In the 2018 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), a competition for high-school students, the trio placed second in the &quot;Energy: Physical&quot; category for their design and development of solar-tracking Arduino-rooted photovoltaic panels. </p><p>The team represented the Philippines after their success in the 2018 National Science and Technology Fair (NSTF), the DepEd said.</p><p>The NSTF <a href="https://www.facebook.com/NATIONALSTF/posts/442770696497631">Facebook account</a> shared the letter sent by Massachusetts Institute of Technology to Rivera, congratulating him for his team&#x27;s work.</p><p>The minor planet No. 34524, discovered by the Linear program of MIT Lincoln Laboratory, was named Eugenerivera.</p><p>&quot;MIT Lincoln Laboratory is proud to have this opportunity to encourage science education,&quot; the letter said.</p>
