<p>MAYNILA — Tuloy pa rin ang pagbabakuna sa Pilipinas gamit ang COVID-19 vaccine ng Sinovac Biotech ng China na CoronaVac, na ngayon ay puwede na ring iturok sa senior citizens.</p><p>Iyan ay kahit naiulat ang pag-amin umano ng direktor ng Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention na &quot;hindi gaanong mataas&quot; ang proteksiyong ibinibigay ng naturang Chinese vaccines.</p><p>Sa ulat, sinabi umano ni CDC Director Gao Fu na pinag-aaralan kung dapat baguhin ang dosage ng bakuna, pati na ang interval o bilang ng araw sa pagitan ng una at ikalawang doses. Ikinokonsidera rin umano ng China ang paghahalo ng bakuna na gumagamit ng iba’t ibang teknolohiya. </p><p>Pero sa pahayag niya sa China state tabloid na Global Times, sinabi ni Gao na nagkaroon ng hindi pagkakaunawaan sa nauna niyang pahayag.</p><p>&quot;It was a complete misunderstanding,&quot; aniya.</p><p>Paliwanag ni Gao, may mababa at mataas na protection rate test data ang Chinese vaccines, kaya dapat patuloy ang paghanap ng paraan ng mga siyentista para mapalakas ang proteksiyong naibibigay nito. </p><p>Ayon sa Department of Health (DOH), nasa 65 percent hanggang 91 percent ang efficacy ng Sinovac vaccine base sa phase 3 clinical trials sa Brazil, Indonesia, at Turkey.</p><p>Pero may pag-aaral ding nagpapakitang bumababa sa 50.4 percent ang efficacy kapag ginamit ang CoronaVac sa health workers na exposed sa COVID-19 patients, ayon sa Food and Drug Administration (FDA).</p><p>Sa kabila nito, sinabi ng FDA at ng DOH na makatutulong pa rin ang naturang bakuna para maiwasan ang sakit.</p><p>&quot;So totoo po na medyo mababa ang kanyang efficacy rate compared sa mga mRNA, pero useful naman ito. Lalo na ngayon, ito ang available sa atin, malaki naman ang maitutulong ng mga bakunang ito,&quot; ani FDA Director General Eric Domingo. </p><p>&quot;Itong Sinovac na sinasabi from the Chinese government, the efficacy for mild disease would be about 50 to 60 percent, pero ang efficacy naman niya for severe would be 90 percent and more. Wala naman talagang bakuna na nagsabi na makaka-block siya ng transmission.
