George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News" src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2022/news/04/19/20220330-covid-makati-school-in-person-class-gc-2946.jpg"/><figcaption>A teacher checks the temperature of students before starting their classes at the Jose Magsaysay Elementary School in Makati City on March 30, 2022. <em>George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News</em></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA <strong>(UPDATE)</strong> — The Department of Education (DepEd) is planning to open the next school year (SY) on Aug. 22, with more education institutions holding limited in-person classes alongside remote learning, an official said Tuesday.</p><p>In an online press conference, Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio said the agency is proposing for SY 2022-2023 to start on Aug. 22 and end on July 7, 2023.</p><div><strong>The SY will have 215 days with the following dates for the grading periods:</strong></div><ul>	<li>Quarter 1 - Aug. 22 - Nov. 4</li>	<li>Quarter 2 - Nov. 7 - Feb. 3, 2023</li>	<li>Quarter 3 - Feb. 13 - April 28, 2023</li>	<li>Quarter 4 - May 2 - July 7, 2023</li></ul><p>The proposed Christmas break will start on Dec. 19, with classes resuming on Jan. 2, 2023, San Antonio said.</p><p>There is also a planned mid-year break on Feb. 6-10, 2023, he said.</p><p>San Antonio said the agency is eyeing to hold next SY&#x27;s end-of-year rites, such as graduation ceremonies, from July 10 to 14, 2023.</p><p>The official said the DepEd would continue to implement blended learning, but with more schools reopening to face-to-face instructions.</p><p>&quot;Blended po tayo [sa darating na pasukan], mas marami na rin &#x27;yong face-to-face [classes],&quot; he said.</p><p>(We will still have blended learning in the coming school year but with more face-to-face classes.)</p><p>As of April 18, up to 23,963 schools have started holding limited in-person classes, according to DepEd data.
