<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="http://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2017/news/04/20/20160329-senate-enrile-jc.jpg?ext=.jpg"/><figcaption><div class="embed-desc">Senator Juan Ponce Enrile during the Senate hearing on maney laundering on March 29, 2016. <cite>Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</cite></div></figcaption></figure></div><p>MANILA - The Sandiganbayan Second Division has cleared former senator Juan Ponce Enrile from behest loans cases filed against him by Eduardo &quot;Danding&quot; Cojuangco over a decade ago, the anti-graft court said Thursday.</p><p>In a resolution penned by Justice Michael Musngi and also signed by Division Chair Oscar Herrera and Justice Zaldy Trespeses, the court denied the motion for reconsideration filed by the prosecution in 2005 after the court found that Enrile was never involved in the behest loans cases. </p><p>&quot;The court restates the findings in the assailed resolution that the dropping of defendant Enrile for the complaint is justified,&quot; the resolution read.</p><p>The charges stemmed from loans and credit privileges allegedly granted by the Development Bank of the Philippines to Northern Cement Corporation, the acquisition of Alpha Integrated Textile Mills allegedly in favor of Southern Textile Mills, and loans and advances from the Philippine Tourism Authority given in favor of Holiday Villages and Coral Island Resort. </p><p>In December 2004, the Sandiganbayan earlier ruled that Enrile was &quot;not involved any act, omission, or any wrong&quot; deed in relation to the subject behest loans.</p><p>Enrile, who has pending plunder and graft cases over alleged mishandling of pork barrel funds when he was a senator, has retired from government service and has been enjoying his life as a free man since the Supreme Court granted him bail in 2015.</p>
